Pennsylvania sports betting will have some thoroughbred racing to consider Friday with the ninth edition of the $400,000 Grade 2 Penn Mile at Penn National Race Course in Grantville.

The Penn Mile is the signature race of the Grantville oval, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

The 3-year-old turf race is one of six stakes on the 11-race evening card with first race post time set for 5 p.m.

In addition to watching the race, visitors also can try their luck at the Hollywood Casino at Penn National, which has variety of Pa online slots and table games such as blackjack and baccarat.

Penn National is 17 miles northeast in I-81 from the state capital in Harrisburg.

Sizing Up the Field

Entries for the Grade 2 Penn Mile include the two early favorites, Major Dude and Candidate.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Major Dude won this year’s Grade 3 Kitten’s Joy Stakes at Gulfstream Park and has earned more than $400,000 in his career. 
Candidate is trained by Arnaud Delacour and was second to Major Dude in this year’s Kitten’s Joy Stakes. Other race entries include three Pennsylvania-breds: Movisitor, Fletcher, and Upstate and Back.

The complete eight-horse field for the Penn Mile Stakes, in post-position order with jockey, trainer and morning line odds follows, with approximate post time set for 7:45 p.m.
