The Steelers Super Bowl odds have dropped to +5500 early Monday from +6500 in mid-February after they acquired DK Metcalf in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks while sending a 2025 Second-Round draft pick.
This is a massive deal for the Steelers as they acquire a top receiver to pair with George Pickens, which will give them a chance to beat some of the better teams in the AFC, like the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs. Pennsylvania sportsbooks have increased their chances with the belief that Metcalf can give the Steelers the jolt they need to make a deep run.
The Steelers agreed to the trade while also extending Metcalf to a five-year, $150 million extension. Ultimately, this will only help a team that ranked just 20th in points per game in the NFL last season while giving them a legitimate threat in the red zone.
Could Rodgers Trade Shift Odds As Well?
The Steelers seem to be going all in after acquiring Metcalf. With the team not expecting to resign Russell Wilson or Justin Fields, several sources suggest they could go after Aaron Rodgers.
The odds that Rodgers would join the Steelers have shifted to +125 this morning after being at +225 last week, according to DraftKings Sportsbook PA. Significantly, this would be a major boost from last year’s quarterback class, as Russell Wilson and Justin Fields both displayed inconsistency. As previously mentioned, the offense stalled numerous times last season.
Despite going 10-7 and making the playoffs again last season, they endured another first-round exit, this time at the hands of their divisional rivals, the Baltimore Ravens. Unfortunately, the Steelers scored under 20 points on nine occasions last season and barely mustered 14 in the wildcard weekend loss to the Ravens. Getting Rodgers and pairing him with Metcalf and Pickens could give the Steelers the boost they need to end an eight-year playoff win drought.
Metcalf, Rodgers Could Get Steelers Over the Hump
If the Steelers can land Rodgers, it could skyrocket them into the AFC Title contender list. While Pickens did good work as the top receiver, he alone was not enough to help an offense that ranked 23rd in the NFL in touchdowns in the red zone.
The Steelers have endured multiple first-round exits over the last eight years, but the addition of Metcalf, and potentially Rodgers, can finally give them the offensive firepower to match up with a defense that continues to rank among the league’s best. As noted below, it has not been a pretty stretch for the Steelers, as they have not been able to capitalize on their chances in the playoffs, mainly due to a mediocre offense.
