As the Pennsylvania sports betting fans get ready to watch the Philadelphia Flyers start the second half of the NHL regular season Wednesday at home against the Detroit Red Wings, they know at least one of their players shined during the NHL All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas.
Claude Giroux, 34, the Flyers’ long-time captain, scored two goals for the Metropolitan Division to capture NHL Most Valuable Player honors in a 5-3 victory over the Central Division on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena. Giroux also had recorded two points with one goal and an assist) during the Metropolitan Division's 6-4 victory over the Pacific Division earlier in the evening in the league’s three-on-three format.
Giroux, who also was named Metropolitan Division captain with Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals out because of COVID-19 protocols, became the third Flyer to ever win an All-Star Game MVP, joining Reggie Leach (1980) and Wayne Simmonds (2017).
Maybe the Giroux magic over the weekend can provide a spark to a team that desperately needs it as it returns to the ice this week.
