After a two-day testing period over the weekend, Penn National Gaming’s new casino — Hollywood Casino York — is ready for its grand opening Thursday at noon.
It will be the 15th casino in the Keystone State, giving PA online casino players another option. Penn National announced on July 12 that Thursday was the targeted opening date.
During its monthly meeting on Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) announced that the Category 4 casino, also known as a “mini-casino,” successfully completed its testing, which took place on Aug. 7 between 4-10 p.m. and on Aug. 8 between 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
All gaming proceeds from both testing days will be going to charitable organizations in the area, including York County Veterans Outreach, York County Food Bank, Mr. Sandy’s Veterans Helping Hand, as well as local VFWs and American Legion posts.
The roughly 80,000-square-foot York facility will feature approximately 500 slot machines and 24 table games, with a capacity for up to 750 slot machines and 40 table games.
There will also be a Barstool Sportsbook and race book for PA sports betting. The Barstool casino app went live in May and is competing with other PA online casinos.
Two eateries, the Diner & Drinks, a casual restaurant and bar, and the Classic Grill, a grab-and-go facility, will also be featured at Hollywood Casino York.
Penn National Gaming CEO and President Jay Snowden noted the casino opening in an earnings release last week.
“We are very excited to open our Hollywood Casino York facility on August 12, which will be our third casino in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, pending final regulatory approval,” Snowden said.
Penn National Gaming Growing
Located in the York Galleria Mall in Springettsbury Township, the casino represents Penn National’s third Pennsylvania gambling facility. It joins Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in Grantville and The Meadows Racetrack & Casino in Washington (outside of Pittsburgh).
A fourth property, Hollywood Casino Morgantown, is scheduled to open later this year.
PGCB’s next monthly meeting is scheduled for Sept. 15 at 10 a.m.
