Sixers Take Game 1 Over Wizards
The No. 1 seed Sixers knocked off the 8-seed Wizards 125-118 in Game 1 on Sunday to take a 1-0 series lead. They were led by big performances from Joel Embiid, and in particular, Tobias Harris, who finished with a playoff career high 37 points as well as six rebounds and two assists.
The Sixers rolled through the Eastern Conference with a 49-23 record on their way to clinching the No. 1 seed for the first time since 2001 and the days of Allen Iverson. Meanwhile, their first-round opponents Washington only reached the Playoffs after beating the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Play-In Tournament to earn the eighth seed.
The Wizards led at halftime of Game 1 in Philadelphia but ran out of steam in the second half despite 33 points from Bradley Beal and a 16-point, 14-assist performance from Russell Westbrook.
