On the heels of an incredible college run in State College, Penn State All-American linebacker Abdul Carter is ready to take his talents to the pros, with the 2024 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year being projected as a potential top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
With the Super Bowl over, our attention can shift towards the upcoming draft. At PennStakes.com, we developed odds projecting what NFL team will draft Penn State’s Abdul Carter.
Team | Odds | Percent Change |
New England Patriots | +100 | 50.0% |
Cleveland Browns | +200 | 33.3% |
New York Giants | +1400 | 6.7% |
The Field | +900 | 10.0% |

Carter’s junior year stats for the Nittany Lions were off the charts, with the third year linebacker out of Philadelphia racking up 68 tackles, 24 tackles for loss and 12 sacks this season, earning All-American honors for his exploits on the defensive side of the ball for head coach James Franklin and company.
Right now, we’re going with the New England Patriots to take Carter with the fourth pick in April’s draft, with the AFC East stalwarts listed at +100 to do so, beating out the Cleveland Browns (+200) and New York Giants (+1400) in the race to land the former Nittany Lions star.
That said, in his most recent mock draft for ESPN.com, Field Yates has Carter going second overall to the Browns, with Cleveland sitting at No. 2 to take the star out of Penn State after the Tennessee Titans went with Cam Ward out of Miami with the top pick in the draft.
Regardless of what goes down on April 24, expect Carter to hear his named called by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell early in Green Bay, as the former Penn State linebacker is considered one of the top college prospects in this year’s draft class, building on a monumental three-year run in Happy Valley once he enters the pros in 2025.
That’s because Yates’ colleague in Bristol, Mel Kiper, has Carter ranked No. 2 on his latest big board, ranking behind only Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter out of Colorado in the seven-round event that begins in earnest on the hallowed grounds of Lambeau Field later this month.

Abdul Carter is projected to go in the top 10 in the 2025 NFL Draft. As is with the NFL Draft, there are many unexpected things that could happen from trades to surprise picks that could push Carter up or down in the draft. However, don't be surprised if Carter goes No. 2 to the Cleveland Browns.
Our own odds at PennStakes.com has Abdul Carter with a 33.3% chance to go second overall to the Browns in the NFL Draft this April.
