Few big men have dominated a box score quite like Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid has over the last few years. Now in his eighth year, Embiid again leads the NBA in scoring (32.0 points per game) and adds more than 11 rebounds and 6 assists per game.
Embiid is on pace to capture his third consecutive scoring title, which would make him the first Sixers player to achieve such a feat and only the fifth player to do so in the last half-century, alongside James Harden (2018-20 with the Rockets), Kevin Duran (2010-12 with the Thunder), Michael Jordan (1996-98 and 1987-93 with the Bulls) and George Gervin (1978-80 with the Spurs).
Embiid’s success on the floor, however, hasn’t translated to him becoming to go-to league MVP favorite across several PA sportsbook apps.
As an example, oddsmakers at BetMGM Sportsbook Pennsylvania give the 29-year-old the third-best odds (+900) to win the award, while the team at ESPN BET PA has Embiid second overall at +650 (tied with Luka Doncic and behind Nikola Jokic at +150).
Luckily for Embiid, the Sixers’ championship odds are pretty rosy, with ESPN BET giving Philly +1400 odds to win their first title since 1983 next spring. Under new coach Nick Nurse, the Sixers sit in a tie with the Golden State Warriors for the fifth-best title odds in the league, behind Boston (+360), Denver and Milwaukee (+425 each) and Phoenix (+700).
PennStakes.com – your home for PA sportsbooks - used BasketballReference.com to look up the previous three-time champs in the last 50 seasons. Embiid currently is leading the league in scoring at 32 points per game, although Doncic (31.4) and Durant (31.0) are close behind.
NBA Three-Time Scoring Champs
Embiid has the chance to be the NBA’s first three-time scoring champ from the center position since Wilt Chamberlain led the league in PPG production between 1959-60 and 1965-66 (seven seasons in a row).
Since the NBA-ABA merger in 1976-77, the only traditional centers to win the scoring title were David Robinson of the San Antonio Spurs (1993-94), Shaquille O’Neal of the Orlando Magic (1994-95) and L.A. Lakers (1999-2000) — showing how rare of a feat it is for a big man like him to score with such ease.
Embiid and Philadelphia (12-7) will look to continue their winning ways on the court in Washington. BetRivers PA makes the Sixers a 10.5-point and -480 favorite against the Wizards.
PennStakes.com will keep your informed from a betting perspective on the Sixers and all the state’s pro teams, as well as provide PA casino bonuses.
