"Strands" Tops List

Arguably the biggest story of the year was the U.S. presidential election, which saw terms like "Kamala Harris" (No. 2) and "Election Results" (No.4) crack the top 5. We all know what happened after that.

But in fact it was the New York Times' “Strands” that placed first at +1,400%. Released earlier this year, Strands is a daily word puzzle game by The New York Times that requires players to complete a word search of letters arranged in a six-by-eight grid - which can bend in any direction. This is along the same genre of games like Wordle, Connections (T-7 this year as well) etc.

Rounding out the top three is the late Liam Payne at +650%. The former One Direction musician tragically passed away late this year at the much too young age of 31.
