It appears that no college football team is safe from the opening of the NCAA’s transfer portal, as College Football Playoff participant Penn State found out, with the team’s backup quarterback announcing his decision to leave Happy Valley on Sunday.
Beau Pribula, who has appeared in 24 games and completed 37 passes for 424 yards and nine touchdowns across two seasons at Penn State, is leaving the Big Ten program for greener pastures, opening the door for the former three-star recruit out of York to find a better shot at a starting job in the FBS across Pennsylvania sports betting.
Pribula leaves the Nittany Lions as they prepare for their CFP opener as the sixth seed against No. 11 SMU on Saturday, leaving James Franklin’s team in an awkward spot if something were to happen to starting QB Drew Allar against the Mustangs. In Pribula’s case, PennStakes.com broke down the odds on where the former three-star recruit will go next, with Power Four programs like West Virginia and Syracuse leading the way right now.
College | Odds | Percentage Chance |
Iowa | +350 | 22.2% |
Central Florida | +475 | 17.4% |
Missouri | +475 | 17.4% |
West Virginia | +700 | 12.5% |
Syracuse | +1000 | 9.1% |
Temple | +1500 | 6.3% |

Our top landing spot for Pribula out of the portal is the Iowa Hawkeyes at +350, ahead of other contenders like UCF (+475) and Missouri (+475).
Then there's the West Virginia Mountaineers of the Big 12, who are welcoming back former head coach Rich Rodriguez to Morgantown in 2025.
The second-time head coach at WVU has a decent shot at landing Pribula out of the portal, with the Mountaineers sitting at +700 on our odds board, beating out the Syracuse Orange of the ACC and Temple Owls of the American Athletic Conference, who are listed at +1000 and +1500, respectively.
West Virginia will need to replace outgoing QB Garrett Greene next year, with Greene throwing for 1,972 yards and 13 touchdowns for the 6-6 Mountaineers this fall, while Syracuse needs to find an heir apparent for Ohio State transfer Kyle McCord, who had 4,326 yards and 29 touchdowns this fall under first year head coach Fran Brown.
Temple’s new head coach K.C. Keeler, who took over in Philadelphia this month after being at Sam Houston State from 2014 to 2024, will need a new quarterback for his first season at the AAC program, potentially opening up a way for Pribula to stay in the Keystone State to finish out his collegiate career.
