It looks like the marriage between nine-time All-Star forward Paul George and the Philadelphia 76ers may not last a full NBA season, as the two sides appear on the verge of a divorce, with the veteran out of Fresno State appearing set to move on from the City of Brotherly Love.
George has been his typically prolific self when he’s been on the court for Philly, averaging 20.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game with a player efficiency rating of 15.6 and 1.0 win shares in 30 games. The issue, though, is that he’s missed 18 games this season, doing little to help the Eastern Conference franchise dig their way out of a 19-29 (.396) start to the season.
With the NBA trade deadline set for Thursday afternoon, PennStakes.com took a look at where George will be suiting up afterwards, with the odds still in Philly’s favor to keep their superstar guard and forward through the rest of the season at least.
Team | Odds | Percent Chance |
Stay With Philadelphia 76ers | -200 | 66.7% |
Golden State Warriors | +650 | 13.3% |
Atlanta Hawks | +800 | 11.1% |
The Field | +1100 | 8.3% |
With George coming to Philly via a four year deal worth just under $211.6 million prior to the start of the 2024-25 league year, there’s no immediate way for the disgruntled star to get out of town without finding a trade partner that’s willing to eat his salary cap hit.
That’s why we have George staying with the Sixers, with Philly holding -200 odds of holding on to the six-time All-NBA honoree, with the Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks being the only outside contenders for the veteran’s hardwood services right now.
On that front, Golden State is the frontrunner in the George sweepstakes, with +650 hypothetical odds of landing him via a trade, while the Hawks aren’t far behind, with +800 odds of swooping in and making a deal for the 34-year-old out of Palmdale, California before Thursday’s trade deadline concludes.
